I'm a big fan of Cal Ripken Jr. Does Baltimore have any museums that have exhibits on his career with the Orioles?
-Carl H Hi Carl, thanks for your question concerning one of Baltimore's sports legends. In an age of show me the money, steroid scandals, and me first attitudes, Cal brought a breath of fresh air by displaying the best qualities of sportsmanship and moral character. Although Cal has been long retired from baseball, his impact on the city of Baltimore is still celebrated. Perhaps no where else more so than at the Sports Legends Museum located adjacent to Oriole Park at Camden Yards in the beautifully restored former B&O Railroad Camden Station. The Sports Legends Museum has exhibits which celebrate the rich sports history of Baltimore. A featured exhibit on the first floor of the museum entitled, Nine Innings of Orioles Baseball, covers the history of the Orioles from the Late 19th Century up to the present day. Cal is featured exclusively in the eighth inning of this exhibit covering his career in depth. Cal remains active in the Baltimore community. With his brother, Billy Ripken, they started a charity in the name of their father, Cal Sr, for under privileged children across the country to attend baseball camps. Cal is also involved with minor league baseball, where he owns two class A teams, one of which plays in Aberdeen, MD as the Aberdeen Iron Birds. In the media Cal can be found writing a weekly column for The Baltimore Sun and as a spokesman for Comcast. Finally in recent news, Cal has been elected as a first ballot Baseball Hall of Fame member. He will be inducted on July 29, 2007 at the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY Best Regards,
