Towson

Towson, MD is a mixture of urban office buildings, a shopping & entertainment district, and a vibrant suburban housing community. It is located between the Baltimore Beltway ( I-695) and the Northern boundary of Baltimore City. Towson is the county seat of Baltimore County. Accordingly it has a large government and financial based industry.

Two Colleges/Universities make education the third major industry of Towson. On the south side of town lies Towson University, the second largest public university in Maryland. The 18,000 students who attend Towson University find all the excitement of a major university right on their 430 acre campus. Football, soccer, basketball, gymnastics, lacrosse, baseball and tennis are all featured sports played by the Towson Tigers. Buy a ticket to a game and enjoy the excitement of college sports. Goucher College, located on 480 acres of land at the northern edge of Towson, is the other institution of higher learning in Towson. This private co-educational school is well known as a top tier liberal arts college. Goucher has a highly regarded performance and visual arts center with regular performances. Look for a seminar, exhibit, or a live show when you are in town.

Whether you are visiting for business or pleasure you will find many things to do during your stay. For starters, Towson has the largest mall in the Baltimore metro area. At the upscale Towsontown Center (which features a sky bridge over Fairmount Ave to the Sheraton Baltimore North Hotel) you will find Macy’s, Nordstrom’s, Anthropologie, and other fine shops. Trader Joe’s, Barnes & Noble, and Pier One Imports can be found in the neighboring Towson Circle center. Continue down York Road and explore a village of eclectic boutiques and specialty shops. Across town the Shops at Kenilworth provide some of the finest retailers in the region. JoS. A. Bank, South Moon Under, and About Faces Day Spa are among the 30 establishments that make up the Shops in Kenilworth. But the local's favorite at Kenilworth is Stebbins. Stebbins combines the old-fashioned hardware store with upscale furnishings and a crafts shop. During the holidays an amazing display of trees and ornaments is a Stebbins tradition.

Dining choices in Towson are wide and varied, in terms of palette and price. The Peppermill offers old style Baltimore dining while Vin, located in the heart of the entertainment district, offers the latest in American fusion cuisine. If you are searching for authentic Baltimore style crab cakes, you do not have to travel the 20 miles to the Inner Harbor, you can find crab cake heaven in Towson at the Crack Pot Restaurant. Most of the bars in downtown Towson also offer a wide range of dining specials every night. Each hotel in the area is located close to a wide range of places to enjoy a great meal.

Other notable attractions of Towson include the Recher Theatre -a venue for prominent local and major national music acts, Johnny Unitas Stadium at Towson University for exciting Baltimore Bay Hawk lacrosse action, the weekly farmer's market held each Thursday while in season, and the nearby Hampton National Historical Site -site of the largest house of Pre-Revolutionary America.
